Our "berry" fun weekend!

On my way home from the temple (the first time I have been in over 2 1/2 months due to Rachel's lovely trauma) I went to Superstition Ranch Market to pick up some produce (because their prices are MUCH cheaper) While I was there, I noticed that they had their strawberries on a SUPER good sale. 4 lb box for $1.50. Well being the bargain hunter I am, I couldn't pass that up so I bought 2 boxes. After thinking about it and having to go back over to that part of town later that day, I decided at that price I needed to get more to make some strawberry jam. I think I got a little carried away because I bought 14 boxes. Brad quickly totaled that up and said, "MOM! did you know you bought 56 lbs of strawberries?!" We got the whole crew involved (for a short time then Brad bailed on us because he had to go order his tux for prom, ya,....likely excuse!) and, Spencer was out doing outside stuff... anyway, needless to say we had strawberries coming out of our ears!! But everyone was a good sport and kept working till we were done. We only suffered one burn (Shannon from the strawberry stuff boiling up onto her) one cut(Rachel because she was being stubborn and not using the strawberry topper thing instead of a knife) and tired aching back and feet (all of us!)

But the end result was great!!!!!! We got 32 pints, 9 quarts and 18 freezer containers of jam. 2 quarts of strawberries to eat and a quart squished up to put on strawberry shortcake. Yum Yum!! I don't know that this will go down as a great memory (at least for a few years yet).

Wow! I bought 4 boxes and I thought that was a lot. I washed, cut, squished the strawberries, made some jam and got tired so put the rest in the freezer for another day. That deal was awesome!

I am in awe! I have NEVER made jam in my life. Can I come live at our house and you can teach me all the neat things that you know???

Everytime I hear stories like this all I can think of is: 'boy I stink at being a home maker'.

Great Job Karen! And Kids!!

I don't want to live at 'our' house. I meant 'your' house. I make no sense. :0)
